Lobby
This is an image created for a conceptual hotel lobby aboard a rotating space station inspired by the Von Braun model. Having the necessary benefits of gravity will be crucial for us as we spend more and more time off world. This lobby consists of a large inflatable module with a diameter of 50 feet, strung together with many others in a spinning ring configuration to achieve an equivalent to Earth's gravity.
The lobby would serve as the first point of entry into the hospitality portion of the station. After inflation, a crew of construction robots would put in the framework for the three floors which would include built in infrastructure for water and power. They would be followed by human contractors to install the cladding, do finish work and dress the space. A powerful smart system would monitor and regulate temperature, humidity, pressure and atmospheric composition across modules based on individual needs. A dedicated team of plant experts would care for the many species of plants that would be so important to our sense of well being in an alien environment far from our home.
Intended to create a sense of warmth and familiarity, the Lobby is juxtaposed against the fantastic perspective of low earth orbit. This incredible view of our home planet appears through a massive "picture window" composed of a matrix of flexible OLEDs. The image would be stitched together from a series of cameras positioned on the module's surface.
